The Pasin FMU has been logged previously, and the dynamic of the forest and its commercial timber stocking requires assistance to regenerate in time frames acceptable to commercial practices. FMU has provide the following provision and management prescriptions to maintain, restore or enhance the productive capacity and ecological integrity of the forest.
a) Enrichment Planting:
- Commence after harvesting has been completed as certified by the FMU operator
- Species to plant – Kelampayan and other Dipterocarp species (if seed/seedlings source available)
- Being carried out in suitable disturbed areas including skid trails, winching platforms, log landings, abandoned PoRM, Temporary camps (Rumah Tarik) and large forest gaps of more than 900m2
- Kelampayan seedlings are raised in a forest nursery
- 1st census to be carried out within 2-4 weeks after planting
- 2nd census to be carried out at 3-4 months after planting and to carry out supplying if mortality exceed 30%. However, this shall exclude research and PSP plots
- Weed maintenance – remove or clear all weeds, sedges and including climbers regeneration along the plating lines
In the future, Pasin FMU may apply other silvicultural methods based on the recommendation of Forest Department Sarawak/Sarawak Forestry Corporation or based on the results of research and studies pertaining to the FRA, PSP, pre-harvesting inventory and post-logging assessment.
